We all know that from the day we are born we start aging. It seems to go upward to a point and then at some point, we begin to show signs of decay. We speak of this process as "the circle of life" or remark that someone is "not getting older; they're getting wiser." We celebrate the fact that a person is very old but can still drive a car or carry on a conversation.

We should make every to look at old age as optimistically as possible. But there is another side to aging!

Recently I observed a very old woman who was hunched over and walking with great difficulty down the stairs of her front porch. Suddenly I saw aging for what it is - a curse. Don't get me wrong. This process of downward corruption will eventually take hold of all of us if we live long enough.

At the same time, we should not close our eyes to the fact that it was never a part of God's original design but came as a result of sin entering the world! This old woman struggling with weakness and pain would never have been in this condition were it not for the curse!

Try to imagine her for just a moment, not as an old woman who is experiencing the natural course of life but as one who is gripped by a curse! Try to see her, not as an old woman, but as a young woman who is now displaying the result of the curse in her life!

We look at ourselves in the mirror and realize the curse is taking over. Some might think it looks distinguished for a while but eventually it takes it toll!

We begin to feel arthritic pains, clogged veins or loss of sight or hearing. It might be a matter of humor to an extent but most older folks know one thing - you are the same on the inside but your body is decaying!

I am not saying all this to be pessimistic or morbid about old age. I am merely presenting the biblical perspective that we are all under this curse of mortality. It started when Adam and Eve sinned and will continue until God establishes His Kingdom fully on this earth.

The good news is that God has made a way to be delivered from this curse. It does not involve living eternally in our current fallen state of mortality. Instead, it involves living eternally in a new, changed and immortal state!

4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life.
2 Corinthians 5:4

Even Christians will groan in their old age. I am in my late fifties, I cannot rise from a low chair without "groaning!" We will endure many of the aches and pains just as others who do not place their faith in Christ. The difference is that when we pass through physical death, we will put off these earthly, sin-corrupted tents (bodies) and will be given new, sin-free immortal bodies.

This is not some pie-in-the-sky fairy tail as many suppose. God has guaranteed it!

Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.
2 Corinthians 5:5

God has given us a down payment or guarantee that He will be faithful to complete this metamorphosis for all believers in Christ! This is not only a guarantee for a small number of elite who are voted in as "saints!" It is for all who believe in Him! And what a guarantee! He has given us Holy Spirit to live inside us as the guarantee!

Some might leave a cash deposit as a down payment. Others may leave an item of value as a guarantee. But God has given the Holy Spirit! It is like leaving a part of yourself to guarantee your promise!

The great news is that God makes it available to all! If you have not come to know Christ by placing your faith in Him, you can - right now!

Ask Him to come into your heart. Believe that He died for your sins. Ask Him to supernaturally form you into the person He designed you to be! When you do, He will give you the Holy Spirit as your own personal guarantee of immortality!

As you walk with Him, you will also see the incredible benefits that will take place, even in this present world and life!

Then when you pass to the next life it will be one of eternal joy with no more pain, sorrow or tears!
